Australian F1 Grand Prix - Melbourne
One of the world’s most glamorous sporting events, the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix is an amazing spectacle run around Melbourne’s Albert Park Lake with Higgins Coatings a regular part of the racing action.
Having a building area contract with client KBR and track works responsibilities with Groundforce, Higgins has their work cut out for them commencing around 4 weeks before the contest begins. Racing against the clock and the other trades vying for pole position, Higgins has 4 teams working 24/7 painting all buildings, pit areas and the track.
Using a range of Dulux products including heavy-duty two pack paint for the pit floors, the teams must prepare all barriers, curbs and ripple strips around the track while remaining on stand-by to paint areas as requested – including any damaged by crashes over the practice sessions.
While on the serious side the Higgins teams led by Project Manager, David Stephens and Foreman, Robert Stephens ensure they comply fully with all issues of OH&S in such a busy and sometimes chaotic environment, there’s some fun to be had too.
Celebrities learning to drive and having photo shoots are a common sight while in 2007 the painting of the starting grids and finish line just happened to coordinate with the glamorous Grid Girls’ practise sessions.
Feedback from our clients has been most favourable while our crews are more than ready to tackle the event again next year.
