The Melbourne Cricket Ground

Described by Grocon Project Manager, Steve Richardson as ‘Melbourne’s Sydney Harbour Bridge’; the Melbourne Cricket Ground’s $434 million Northern stand development was the biggest building project ever conducted at this iconic sports arena that had Higgins Coatings involved for almost 3 years.

Completed just in time for the 2005 Boxing Day Test between Australia and South Africa and ready to go for the 2006 Commonwealth Games, this remarkable MCG redevelopment began with the demolition of the old Ponsford Stand and grew into a sporting superstructure to outshine the best in the world.

Higgins Coatings had a large team of painters onsite preparing all open and covered areas including the members and public sections while using massive booms to access the external structure and soaring 4-storey internal atriums.

The esteemed Long Room required a meticulous, painstaking approach to ensure that the wood panelling and intricate timber detailing were perfectly finished in keeping with an established heritage. Apparently, one of the greatest room’s in the world to watch cricket, even this great club’s purists were most impressed with the exceptional results.
